WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
ASSOCIATION
INTERCARGO has
been protecting the interests of International Dry Cargo Shipowners since
1980.
| Its
purpose is to give members an opportunity to set the industry's priorities
for action; to offer timely advice and information and to defend members'
commercial interests. |
Membership of INTERCARGO
offers companies the opportunity to discuss issues of interest and
meet with 111 Members and Associate Members owning and operating 75 million
dwt of dry cargo shipping.
PRIORITIES
Issues deemed important
to the INTERCARGO membership include:
- Establishment of
a free and fair shipping market with the eradication of substandard
ships;
- The need to improve
the quality of dry cargo shipping without increasing the cost to the
Owner;
- Creation of an
environmentally friendly industry providing a safe place of work for
its seafarers;
- Involvement in
the Ship Scrapping debate;
- Cooperation with
the other Associations to provide solutions for the inadequacy of Flag
State administrations and Class;
- Discussions with
Chartering interests in order to secure a more responsible attitude
to the selection and employment of quality tonnage; and
- To improve communication
with Legislators and Regulators
EXCLUSIVITY
INTERCARGO
is the only Association which concentrates exclusively on the interests
of International Dry Cargo Shipowners although strenuous effort is made
at Chairman and Secretariat level to reduce duplication of effort.
| INTERCARGO
is a cost effective organisation offering its members a voice
where individual companies might otherwise be ignored. |
REPRESENTATION
Representation of
Members interests is achieved through:
- Observer status
at IMO and membership of associated sub-committees and working groups
- Participation and
sponsorship of international shipping fora
- Co-operation and promotion of a single voice for shipping within the
Round Table of international maritime associations (BIMCO, ICS, Intercargo
