Air Emissions

INTERCARGO and its Round Table partners have submitted the attached two papers:

  • "Elements for inclusion in the IMO strategy including "Aspirational Objectives" " for consideration at the IMO Intersessional meeting of the Working Group on Reduction of GHG emissions from ships (26-30 June 2017).

The co-sponsors wish to share some ideas on the elements for inclusion in the IMO strategy for CO2 reduction, and the initial strategy to be adopted in 2018, including some ambitious "Aspirational Objectives" that the Organization might consider on behalf of international shipping. The co-sponsors emphasize that any objectives agreed should be non-binding in character and must not imply any kind of commitment or intention to place a binding cap on the sector's total CO2 emissions, or on the CO2 emissions of individual ships.

  • "REDUCTION OF GHG EMISSIONS FROM SHIPS: Elements for inclusion in the IMO Strategy" for consideration at IMO MEPC 71 (3-7 July 2017).

The co-sponsors comment on document MEPC 71/7/8 and inform about their own submission to ISWG-GHG 1 that includes some "Aspirational Objectives" that the Organization might consider on behalf of international shipping, but which should be non-binding in character and must not imply any kind of commitment or intention to place a binding cap on the sector's total CO2 emissions, or on the CO2 emissions of individual ships.
