An overview of IMO’s functioning and of INTERCARGO’s participation

Dear Members of INTERCARGO,

Yesterday, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council elected

Mr Arsenio Dominguez as the Organization’s next Secretary-General (subject to IMO Assembly approval later in the year) from 1 Jan. 2024.

He will be succeeding Mr Kitack Lim who will be stepping down at the end of 2023.

Our Association congratulated Mr Dominguez on his election and wished him to continue successfully the excellent work of his predecessors,

including Mr Kitack Lim who has served the IMO with such dedication these past eight years.

For the past 30 years, INTERCARGO has enjoyed a beneficial working relationship with the IMO,

participating with consultative status to represent the dry bulk shipping sector and to promote safety, operational efficiency and the protection of the marine environment.

On this occasion,

please find attached a set of slides providing an overview of:

  • IMO’s structure and functioning
  • INTERCARGO’s participation over the last years to 2023 thus far.
