Dear Members,
The 12th session of the IMO Sub-Committee on Implementation of IMO Instruments (III 12) was held at IMO Headquarters from Monday, 20 June to Friday, 24 July 2026. INTERCARGO was duly represented.
Key topics that were discussed included:
1) Revision of the guidelines on the implementation of the ISM Code
2) Lessons learned and safety issues
3) Guidelines for port State control officers on enhanced machinery and maintenance inspections
4) Casualty reporting
5) Bulk carrier safety – fire standards for cargo handling spaces of specialized self-unloading bulk carriers
6) Ship recycling survey guidelines for the Hong Kong Convention
7) Enclosed space entry
There will be three Correspondence Groups to be established soon after III 12. The INTERCARGO Secretariat will endeavour to participate in those CGs:
1) Correspondence group on comprehensive revision of the guidelines on the implementation of the ISM Code
2) Correspondence group to consider and develop the guidelines for PSCOs on enhanced machinery and maintenance inspections
3) Correspondence Group on Lessons Learned and Safety Issues including the review of the Casualty Investigation Code
