Brief on the outcome of the IMO Intersessional Working Group on GHG emissions

At IMO this past week (23-27 October) took place the 2nd “INTERSESSIONAL MEETING OF THE WORKING GROUP ON REDUCTION OF GHG (GreenHouse Gas) EMISSIONS FROM SHIPS”.

A 1st meeting took place on 26-30 June 2017 (just before the last MEPC 71 – Marine Environment Protection Committee meeting), and 3rd one will be taking place right before the next MEPC 72 in April 2018.

The meeting worked on the formulation of the INITIAL IMO STRATEGY ON REDUCTION OF GHG EMISSIONS FROM SHIPS which would comprise basically

– a Vision

– Levels of Ambition

– Guiding Principles

– List of candidate short-, mid- and long-term further measures with possible timelines
