INTERCARGO has been a proud supporter of the Together in Safety since its inception, and is fully aligned with its mission to make a lasting improvement on the safety performance in the global shipping industry.
As a Non-Governmental Organisation, Together in Safety brings together leaders from across the maritime sector who share a common purpose to prevent serious injuries and fatalities, environmental pollution and major asset damage.
Together in Safety provides a wide range of simple to implement best practices developed by the shipping industry, that are free to use and supplement existing management systems. These are designed to help companies reduce their exposure to serious incidents, strengthen their safety culture, and improve the wellbeing and care for their seafarers.
A key element of the initiative is the Golden Safety Rules — a set of ten practical, life-saving rules developed from industry incident data, focusing on high-risk activities such as enclosed space entry, working at height, energy isolation, and working over water. The Rules support consistent, everyday safe behaviours on board and ashore.
