On this Day of the Seafarer, INTERCARGO extends its appreciation to seafarers across the globe, whose unwavering dedication ensures the safe and efficient transport of more than 90% of the world’s cargo. The dry bulk sector is the largest shipping sector ensuring the continuous flow of essential commodities and raw materials that sustain international trade and the global economy. Our seafarers’ tireless work keeps supply chains moving.
The 2025 IMO campaign, “My Harassment-Free Ship”, calls for a united maritime commitment to foster respectful, safe, and inclusive working environments at sea. This year’s theme highlights the urgent need to address bullying, harassment, and discrimination, issues that affect seafarers of all ranks and backgrounds.
INTERCARGO fully supports this campaign and stands with the IMO in its call for zero tolerance toward any form of harassment at sea. We believe that every seafarer deserves to work in an environment where they feel valued, protected, and empowered.
Creating a safer and more respectful workplace requires collective action from all stakeholders (including ports, charterers etc). INTERCARGO encourages its members to reinforce onboard policies, prioritise awareness and training, and support open, accountable reporting systems. These steps are essential to ensuring the well-being, dignity, and mental health of those who dedicate their lives to life at sea.
