“INTERCARGO statement on attacks on merchant ships”
INTERCARGO, on behalf of the international dry bulk shipping sector, strongly condemns the attacks on merchant vessels. The safety of our seafarers is paramount and ships must be allowed safe passage in serving international trade.
Following recent escalations in attacks, piracy and kidnappings we express our deep condolences to the seafarers, their families, the shipping companies, and all affected.
We support the International Maritime Organization & the Secretary General’s efforts to ensure freedom of navigation across the globe and to defend the safety of seafarers at the highest level.
These assaults on merchant ships and seafarers while transporting essential goods are unjustified and unacceptable. We call on Governments internationally to do all they can to prevent further bloodshed and to end these attacks.
