Regional and Global Counter Piracy Guidelines

INTERCARGO and its members joined industry partners and contributed to the development of Best Management Practices to deter piracy and enhance maritime Security. Following new and updated versions of the regional and global guidelines are issued on 28 June 2018:

New – Global Counter Piracy Guidance for Companies, Masters and Seafarers (click here to download);

Updated – Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy and Enhance Maritime Security in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea (BMP5) (click here to download);

Updated – Guidelines for Owners, Operators and Masters for protection against piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Guinea region (click here to download).

A new industry website, www.maritimeglobalsecurity.org is also launched.  The website is supported by a number of shipping industry associations including INTERCARGO and is intended to serve as a one-stop shop for companies and mariners seeking guidance on a wide range of Maritime Security Issues.

The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) was launched in November 2006 with 14 Asian Contracting Parties including North, Southeast, and South Asian countries. It has 20 Contracting Parties today, including Europe (Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the United Kingdom), Australia, and the United States.
