Update on 24 Mar 2022:
Several circulars were sent to INTERCARGO members, highlighting that the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) issued a circular No. 3/2022 on 27 Feb 2022, announcing that, from 1 March 2022:
• (Laden/Ballast) “Dry Bulk Vessels” [Rate (3) of the Transit Dues Schedule] transiting the Suze Canal in both directions is charged a surcharge of 5% from Suze Canal normal transit dues.
Reflecting on comments from members, INTERCARGO wrote to SCA and requested to defer the implementation.
The SCA website posted an update on 22 Mar 2022 (https://www.suezcanal.gov.eg/English/Navigation/NavigationCirculars/Pages/3-PC_22-03-2022.aspx), informing that:
– The surcharge levied on (Laden/Ballast) “Dry Bulk Vessels” [Rate (3) of the Transit Dues Schedule] transiting the Suez Canal in both directions, is amended to be 10% from Suez Canal normal transit dues.
– Noting that these surcharges are temporary and can be either amended or cancelled according to the “Maritime Industry” market conditions.
– This periodical is applicable to vessels transiting the Suez Canal from the 1st of May 2022.
