Suez Canal – new surcharges effective on 15 January 2024

A Suez Canal Authority (SCA) circular 7/2003, dated 16 Oct 2023, informed that the regular transit fees will increase by 5% for bulk carriers from 15 Jan 2024. The circular does not provide information regarding the rationale and mechanism behind the price changes. The short notice of the increase would make it impossible for shipping companies to make the necessary explanation to their stakeholders for price increases and result in creating unrest among Canal users and their customers.
