1. ILG – the industry work group on lifeboat safety
INTERCARGO is part of the industry working group on lifeboat safety (ILG) which holds meetings twice a year. The issue of lifeboat accidents, personal injuries and fatalities related to lifeboat accidents has been the prime reason since the ILG was established.
At the last meeting on 11 Oct 2022, it was highlighted that whilst 501 seafarers had been killed in lifeboat accidents since 1980, so far in 2022, no lifeboat accidents had been recorded, however that could be due to under-reporting. Other relevant points at the meeting include:
