Vigilance and Protection of Bulk Carrier Seafarers and shore-based Personnel in the Gulf Region

Dear Members of INTERCARGO,

Our foremost concern remains the safety and wellbeing of seafarers and civilians affected by recent events. We are deeply saddened by the reported attacks and tragic loss of life, and our thoughts are with the families and colleagues of those impacted. We are equally mindful of the threats and heightened concerns facing shore-based personnel and INTERCARGO members operating in the region.

For dry bulk shipping, this is a stark reminder that behind every voyage are professionals whose safety must never be taken for granted.

Seafarers are not parties to conflict; they are simply performing their duties to sustain global trade. All stakeholders must take every necessary step to safeguard those operating, through no fault of their own, in high-risk and even life-threatening environments. The protection of life at sea is a shared and fundamental responsibility.

In this fast-moving situation, members should rely only on verified official information, conduct dynamic risk assessments, maintain heightened vigilance, and strictly implement the latest BMP maritime security guidance. Members are also invited to refer to the relevant circulars issued by the INTERCARGO Secretariat.

The safety of our people must remain the overriding priority.
